Patrick R. Carmichael, M.D.

Patrick R. Carmichael, M.D. was born in Georgia and attended medical school at the University of South Florida. He completed his residency training at the University of Florida/ Alachua General Hospital program. After serving on the faculty at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Dr. Carmichael entered the practice in 1983. He has been recertified in July 1998 and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice.

George M. Benchimol, M.D, FAAFP was born in Lakeland, Florida and grew up in the Tampa Bay area. He attended medical school in Puerto Rico graduating Cum Laude and completed his residency training at the University of Florida Family Practice program serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Benchimol served as Chief of Staff for AGH at Shands during the transition and as an Adjunct Professor with the University of Florida. He is board certified with the American Academy of Family Physicians and is a Diplomate and Fellow of the American Board of Family Practice. Dr. Benchimol is listed in the publications of "The Best Doctors in America", "Florida's Best Doctors" and "Strathmore's Who's Who". He has extensive experience in clinical trials research in the areas of Diabetes, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, Depression, Sinusitis, Migraines, Epidemiology, Anti-biotic therapy et al. Dr. Benchimol has been in practice for 25 years and he is bi-lingual with Spanish being his second language.


David A. Thompson, M.D.

David A. Thompson, M.D.

David A. Thompson, M.D. was born in London, England. He grew up in New Zealand where he graduated from the University of Otago Medical School, interned at St. Luke's Hospital Cleveland, Ohio, and completed a Family Residency program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice. He had been in private practice in Ohio for 21 years before joining Gainesville Family Physicians in 1998.

Dr. Karen Shannon is a native of Gainesville, Florida. She is a graduate of Buchholz High School. She did her undergraduate work at the University of Florida. She then attended medical school at the American University of the Caribbean.

Upon completion of medical school she was accepted into the Residency program at the St. Louis University School of Medicine. She was elected Chief Resident in her final year of residency.

Before accepting a position with Gainesville Family Physicians she worked as a physician in Ocala. Dr. Shannon joined GFP in October of 2001.

Dr. Brodsky was born in New York and has lived in Florida since age 15. He attended college at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia and is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Medicine. He completed a residency in Family Practice at the University of Florida and was in practice in Gainesville for 11 years before joining GFP in 2003. Dr. Brodsky is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He is the CubMaster as well as a Den Leader of Cub Scout Pack 416 in Gainesville. He is married with 2 children and enjoys woodworking and fishing.

Dr. Jackson, was born in Florida and attended medical school at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. She completed her residency training at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC and Monroe, NC in the Family Practice program. Dr. Jackson was named Chief Resident while completing her residency at Carolinas Medical Center. She is an active member of the American Academy of Family Medicine. Dr. Jackson joined Gainesville Family Physicians in 2010.

Sharron Carr, ARNP

Sharron Carr, ARNP

Sharron Carr, ARNP was born in Lodi, Ohio. She graduated from The University of the State of New York with her Associates of Science degree in nursing in 1985, and received her Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degrees in nursing in 2000, with honors, from the University of Florida, where she also completed the advanced registered nurse practitioner program. She completed the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2011 from the University of Florida and received the DSC distinguished student award. Sharron holds advanced board certifications by the ANCC in family practice and by the AHNCC in advanced holistic nursing. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Holistic Nursing Society and has served as a 2008 delegate within in the U.S. – China Nursing Forum for the People To People Citizen Ambassador Program in Beijing, China. She has extensive experience in clinical trials research, oncology, IV infusion therapy and Integrative Medicine.

Sharron provides primary care and serves as an Integrative Specialist utilizing functional medicine, nutri-genomics, counseling and coordination of evidence-based complementary medicine. As an Adjunct Professor, she serves as a clinical preceptor for UF Nurse Practitioner students. Her special areas of interest are in health promotion, prevention, and wellness. Sharron joined GFP in January of 2001.

Karen Cerullo Beigel, ARNP was born in Connecticut. She graduated from Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis with a diploma in nursing in 1979, and received her BS degree in nursing with high honors and her Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Florida, where she completed the advanced registered nurse practitioner program. She is certified by the ANCC in family practice. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She had extensive experience in critical care, bone marrow transplant, and community health nursing before joining GFP in 1998.

Paula Knight, PA-C was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida. She attended Buchholz High School before attending the University of Florida's College of Public Health and Health Professions. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science in 2007. During that time, she worked at Gainesville Family Physicians (GFP) as a medical assistant. She went on to earn her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Florida's School of Physician Assistant Studies. In 2010, after completion of her studies, Paula rejoined GFP. She is an active member of The American Academy of Physician Assistants and The Florida Academy of Physician Assistants.
